Welcome to Little Ones Sensory

Benefits

Why sensory play matters

Sensory play is activities that engage a child’s senses such as touch, sight, sound, smell and taste. It is a powerful and natural way for young children to learn about the world around them. From squishing playdough to splashing in water or exploring textured materials, sensory experiences play a vital role in early childhood development.

Supporting Brain Development

During the early year a child’s brain is rapidly forming connections. Sensory play helps strengthen these neural pathways by encouraging children to respond to different types of sensory input.

Enhancing Motor Skills

Activities like pouring, scooping, squeezing and sorting help develop both fine and gross motor skills. For example, picking up small objects strengthens hand muscles needed for writing.

Language and Communication

Sensory play naturaly promotes conversation. As children explore they begin to describe what they feel, see, experience “soft”, “sticky”, “cold”, “rough”. This supports early communication skills

Boosting Problem Solving, Creativity

Open-ended sensory activities allow children to make decisions. Whether they are figuring out how to build a sand structure or mix colours, they are learning to think critically and creatively.

Assisting with Emotions

Sensory play can have a calming & soothing effect, helping children manage their emotions. Playing with water, sand or soft textures can reduce anxiety & provide a safe outlet for stress or frustration.

Building Social Skills

When sensory play is shared children learn to cooperate, take turns, communicate with others. Group play encourages children understand social boundaries and relationships.

Asian mother and her toddler son enjoy a happy weekend together, playing with hydrophobic sand in their home. The little boy engages in sensory play in a home sandbox, helping develop fine motor skills an

What happens in a session

During our sensory sessions children will be invited to explore a range of carefully designed sensory environments that engage curiosity & creativity. Soft sensory lighting & calming music create a soothing atmosphere, helping to gently regulate & relax the nervous system. These sessions are thoughtfully structured to provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can unwind, feel secure and enjoy a peaceful sensory experience at their own pace.
